Wilhelm-Kraft-Gesamtschule (about us)

Welcome to Wilhelm-Kraft-Gesamtschule

Wilhelm-Kraft-Gesamtschule is a co-educational comprehensive school and was established in 1987. The school educates pupils from year 5 to year 10 and sixth form (years 11-13) and offers a selection of qualifications to its pupils:

  • the compulsory school leaving certificate ’Hauptschulabschluss’
  • the ‘Mittlere Reife’ which is equivalent to six passed GCSEs in the UK
  • the ‘Abitur’ which comes close to British A-Levels.

Each academic year our school has approximately 180 pupils enrolled divided into six classes. Additionally, about 200 Sixth Formers are prepared to achieve the Abitur diploma. The school employs about 100 staff. Due to its status as comprehensive school of the county Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis, Wilhelm-Kraft-Gesamtschule draws its students from a large geographical area including the towns of Sprockhövel, Wetter, Schwelm, Gevelsberg, Ennepetal and Breckerfeld.

Our school is centred into the heart of Sprockhövel-Haßlinghausen, Northrhine-Westphalia. The panoramic view from upper classrooms reveals an enchanting countryside surrounding the rural town. The block of buildings is adjacent to a bus terminal, with a dependeable and regular service to neighbouring towns like Wuppertal and Bochum. The school has an excellent access to the motorways (Autobahnen) A1, A 43 and A 46, linking Haßlinghausen to the vibrant towns of Bochum, Essen, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hattingen, Witten and others.
